One of the games on Friday’s WNBA slate features the Connecticut Sun hosting the Atlanta Dream. Will Connecticut pull off the upset in our Sun vs Dream pick?
Sun Look To Bounce Back From 48-Point Loss Against New York
The Sun have struggled this season, to put it nicely, dropping six of their first seven contests. Their most recent setback includes an ugly 100-52 defeat at the hands of the defending champion New York Liberty.
Tina Charles was one of just two players who recorded a double-digit scoring total. She finished with 10 points on 5-for-12 shooting from the field. Jacy Sheldon also scored 10 points off the bench.
New York put this one away early, outscoring Connecticut 60-28 at the break. As you can imagine, the second half was a mere curtain call. The Sun shot a woeful 31.1 percent from the field and converted only six of their 28 attempts from beyond the arc (21.4 percent).
Atlanta Aiming For Fifth Consecutive Victory
Meanwhile, after dropping two of their first three games, the Dream enter this matchup amid a four-game win streak. Their latest triumph includes a 94-87 win against the Seattle Storm on May 30.
Rhyne Howard was one of three starters who reached double figures. She led the way with a game-high 33 points along with six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Allisha Gray logged 28 points and four rebounds. Brionna Jones chipped in with 15 points and five rebounds, connecting on seven of her 10 shot attempts.
Seattle held a 45-34 advantage at the break, but Connecticut reduced the deficit to 66-63 heading into the final frame. Sklyar Diggins knocked down a jumper to pull Seattle within 82-80.
Gray hit a pair of free throws, and Howard scored the next six points to help Atlanta pull away down the stretch.
Sun vs Dream Pick
Given their 1-6 record, it should not surprise anyone that the Sun are ranked last in offensive and defensive rating. On the other side, the Dream are ranked second in points per game and eighth in scoring defense.
Atlanta has won three of the previous four meetings between these franchises. Taking into consideration that Connecticut does not play well at either end of the court, the Dream will win this one handily.
