Event Preview
The 2025 U.S. Open will see some of the world’s biggest names in golf take to Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. The course will host the U.S. Open for a record-setting tenth time this week, and it will be the first time since 2016 that it has hosted the major.
Scottie Scheffler will be a very popular selection this weekend, as the 28-year-old has been in red-hot form throughout the season. His high-quality performances have remained in tact since winning the PGA Championship, and that was reflected after he finished four shots clear to land the Memorial Tournament at the start of the month. However, taking the American this weekend will require punters to side with one of the shortest-priced players in recent memory in a major.
Rory McIlroy enjoyed major success earlier this season after winning The Masters. However, he has since disappointed at the PGA Championship, and he comes into this event after failing to make the cut at the Canadian Open.
Bryson DeChambeau holds excellent claims this weekend. The American has won two of the last five editions of the U.S. Open, which included a memorable comeback success when beating McIlroy in 2024. His performances in majors this season have remained consistent, and he is incredibly challenging to overlook.
Xander Schauffele could be a player at a bigger price that is worth considering. The American has finished in the top 15 in each of the last eight editions of the U.S. Open. His form this season has also been strong, including when finishing in a tie for eighth at The Masters.
U.S. Open Picks
Scheffler is undeniably the player to beat. However, there are some interesting selections at bigger prices. Among those include the ultra-consistent Sepp Straka, who has already won twice in 2025.
His recent form is very reliable after finishing third at the Memorial, and winning the Truist Championship. He should at least give bettors a selection to keep an eye on as the weekend progresses.
