Event Preview
The Austrian Open makes a welcome return to the DP World Tour this weekend, marking the first time since 2021 that the tournament has been contested. It is unlike any other event on the Tour, as players need to take their shots without exceeding the shot clock.
Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen will be the favorite to claim success this weekend. The Norwegian failed to make the cut at the PGA Championship earlier this month, but his form on the DP World Tour has been solid after achieving back-to-back top ten finishes.
Jordan Smith also appears to be a winner in waiting on the European Tour at this stage of the season. The Englishman’s excellent run of form continued last weekend after finishing in a tie for fourth at the Soudal Open. That marked the third event in a row in which he had finished in the top ten.
Haotong Li only finished three shots off the top of the leaderboard at the Soudal Open last weekend. The 29-year-old has been consistent throughout the season, and will once again be a dangerous contender at a big price this weekend.
Big hitters could excel at the Austrian Open this weekend. Therefore, Eugenio Chacarra is a player worth considering. The Spanish star has quickly adapted to life back on the DP World Tour after being ejected from the LIV Golf calendar. He is likely to go well once again this weekend.
Austrian Open Picks
It could be wise to forgive Jorge Campillo’s efforts last weekend at the Soudal Open, and instead focus on his eye-catching second in the Turkish Open prior.
The Spanish star has been consistent throughout this season, and it could be argued that his price reflects his efforts last week without taking into his previous showing in Europe. A return to form would make him an excellent bet in Austria.
